Environmental Sample Processing

We can provide bulk soil sample processing at competitive rates.

We have a purpose built sieving and drying facility where we can process your samples efficiently and to a high standard. As well as wet-sieving we can also prepare flots for palaeoenvironmental analysis, sort residues for finds and liaise with specialists. We are happy to tailor our service to your needs and can provide a complete service from collection to specialist reports, wet-sieving only, or anything in-between.

Collection of samples can be arranged free of charge in most parts of Gwynedd and Anglesey and for a nominal fee further afield, we can also suggest courier companies if this is likely to be a more cost effective option.

Post-Excavation

We have extensive experience in the implementation and management of post-excavation programmes.

Whether you require someone to undertake a complete post-excavation programme, specific tasks or consultation, we can help.

Our in-house services include illustration, digitising of site records, general finds cleaning and emergency conservation, archive preparation, report writing and specialist consultation.

We work with a trusted group of specialists which include leaders in their fields of expertise.

We can also provide some environmental services, please see our Environmental section for details.

Watching brief

Archaeological Watching Brief

Watching brief

We can undertake all levels of archaeological watching brief and work closely with your appointed contractor to co-ordinate visits, minimising unnecessary costs.

Archaeological Excavation

Excavation is the first thing that springs to mind when you hear the word 'archaeology'.

At Brython Archaeology we can undertake all work associated with excavation from design through to implementation and beyond.

We are happy to design an effective excavation programme to maximise efficiency or provide consultancy on excavations to be undertaken by a third party contractor.

When undertaking our own excavations we pride ourselves on the quality of work and, if required, will employ experienced and trusted fieldworkers with a proven track record in commercial excavation.

We are firm believers in using modern techniques to streamline processes which can reduce time needed on site whilst maintaining a comprehensive archaeological record.

We also provide a range of post-excavation services  which are outlined here.

Archaeological Assessments

We can provide a range of archaeological assessments including

  • Desk Based Assessments (DBA)
  • Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Statement (ES) chapters
  • Assessment of the Significance of the Impact of Development on Historic Landscapes (ASIDOHL) reports
  • Contribution to Heritage Impact Assessments (HIA)

Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Building Recording

We can conduct all levels of building record from a simple photographic survey to a complete drawn survey with full historic background research. Dendrochronological dating of timbers and analysis of mortar and plaster can also be arranged through our preferred specialists.

We can conduct watching briefs during the development and renovation of historic buildings, as always we will work closely with your chosen contractor to minimise costs without compromising the archaeology.

Archival Research

As part of our research for assessments and reports we will conduct extensive research of local and national archives.

We can also use archival research to gain a better understanding of building and land use, sometimes stretching back over hundreds of years. This can often prove a useful tool in determining the archaeological potential of areas pre-application, or alternatively as part of an assessment to fulfil conditions already placed on an application.

Sources typically consulted include historical maps, estate papers, sale catalogues and parish records.

We are also happy to assist individuals with general interest archival research.
